16th Note Groove/Four Stroke Ruff Drum Fill
Просмотров 3,3 тыс.5 дней назад
Shoutout to channel members Jim and Sandeep, both of whom were working on the elements in today's drum fill! This a lovely fill idea where we use the Four Stroke Ruff (lrlR or rlrL) to smoothly transition from the 16th note groove into the fill, which begins on beat 3. The first three strokes of the ruff (the grace notes), take place during the "a" of beat 2, and the fourth stroke of the ruff (...

Hand Technique For Smooth, Fast Hi-Hat Playing
Просмотров 4,9 тыс.Месяц назад
Well, how I do it anyway! This is the hand position/technique I've settled on over the years and default to most often when playing grooves hi-hat (or ride cymbal). I'm definitely NOT saying this is the only way to do it, and of course my approach would vary depending on the musical situation, room I was playing in and the drum kit/hi-hat I was playing on. Thanks for watching. Support this chan...

Thanks good tip, any advice on stopping my thumb creeping up the stick as I play this, or does it just come with time
Thanks for watching. My experience is that the answers are simpler than you might think. When you notice your grip slipping - stop, reset and go again. The value of repetition just can’t be overstated.
Cool drumming
Great! Love these drum fill vids Mike
You're lovely thank you
Very cool!
Super helpful!
Hey, I know this is an old video but I'm hoping you can help. At the end of page one (around bar 30 i think) there is a 2 bar repeat. Why is the crash not included in this repeat? I've noticed that nobody plays it and not sure if I'm supposed to in my exam. Thanks!
😮😮😮😮😮😮😮 0:40
Very strange: I'm able to play fills like this one intuitively, but when I put my mind to it, I'm likely to mess it up! 😅
Not strange! You're just human is all. And that's not to say that "putting your mind to it" isn't sometimes a good idea, often that's the only way to get new/more complex material learned - from then it's repetitions which turn the very conscious thing into subconscious skill.
@@MikeBarnesDrums - Yes, and most likely also along with muscle memory! 🙂 Your kit sounds fabulous, by the way! I prefer higher-tuned toms myself 🙂
You earned another subscriber good sir.
Sick! You should enter the iRock Drum Contest!
Hi Mike thank you for your help. I started playing the drums at 59 and now I'm 60 but hard for me because I just have 30% hearing in my right ear. I learned so much from you
Excellent Mike. My Band cover this. My attempts to give an "essence of Moon" pale into insignificance compared to this. But I'll certainly take some things from this 😊👍
Pinball Wizard is such a cool.sounding with what seem to be very deceptively difficult drums. Yet another example of Moon's brilliance!
Exceptional drumming. You demonstrate what an incredible and unique drummer Moon was.
Moon the Loon ,you nailed it. I really like that kit coming from my monster Mapex DBL Bass setup.
Nice one, Mike!
Fabulous Mike... brilliant Col
I always get excited for the "turn, look at the camera smiling part" haha. Thanks for this. I'll work on it
Keith did play hi-hats on every studio album but ditched them live mid-career then added them again (76 tour they are used). There’s some nice hi-hat punctuations on the original version. This is a great play through tho and really helpful for gigging, especially getting the feel of the crash on 3+ !
Awesome Mike. What a fun song.
Awesome! What a great, fun cover!!!!
can you please do green day welcome to paradise please love

Thanks for watching and so glad you've found the channel useful :)

thanks Mike. huge video.

thought it was the other one
Hi Mike, it´s brilliant as most of your presantations. Thanks for them all. But, but, but are’nt the two? Methods RLK and KRL not just one? at least. If I go right left kick faster and change into kick right left don‘t I get a sequence of RLKRL so that a fast move of RLK is nothing else but the same, a kind of circle?
Thanks for watching! I mean, I suppose so - in the same way that RLRL and LRLR are the same thing, just starting in a different place! Cheers. More linear phrases for you here: ruclips.net/video/a6sFEruLOKE/видео.htmlfeature=shared
You would never think the part was this hard just by listening to the song.
Such a great teacher. Always smiling and so so technically perfect. Time to get into some half time and lido shuffle practice! A long way to go sadly!
Thanks for watching!
You make it look easy .
No more than I should after 30 years! Practice! Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
I watch to the end 😅! Thanks 👍 awesome as ever mister barnes
Ha, you’re the one! Many thanks :)

Hi Mike. I’ve just joined our local drum corp to be able to play with other musicians. Do you have any videos on traditional grip? Thanks Dave
Hi David, great! No, I really don't use traditional grip very much at all on the kit. I see our man Rob brown has some videos on it: ruclips.net/p/PL2cx0KEfwN5FQSRGq-hdp-i29QVMjOpPG&feature=shared
Thank you for this important reminder.
Will my veins pop out my arms if I play long enough 😅
Ha yeah - when combined with a good physical training program 👌🏻
Love this! Thanks for creating this. I’m a beginner drummer and also in a big rut with my drumming and what to learn. Your channels great!
I'm proud to say I'm probably doing something right. The first lesson I watched after buying my drum set was holding the stick somewhat loosely. I'm totally nailing that because my right stick seems to fly across the room every so often lol. I'm getting better at holding on tho.
Yes, I'd personally say if you lose a drumstick from your grip every once in a while (within reason), that's a good sign that you're not gripping too tight!
What part to grip on the stick would you say is best for the balance? Thanks for the video!
Thanks for watching! Please see here: ruclips.net/video/FQ1lny6esQ0/видео.htmlfeature=shared
This one’s tricky
You might think that finding this info is easy. It was not easy to find for me and this is like one of the few clips that even goes into how to "build" the hi hat. And i did not find it when i was looking for it. Partially due to the title being how to fix a brokenhi hat. I needed to assemble the hi hat. I still dont know for sure but i managed to get it working to a point that it does the job. Is it correct? I have no idea. I cant ask Natal either those chumps. Natal, is a british drum company that manufactures drums. I emailed them asking for assembly instruction and they told me they had no instruction booklet to offer me on how to put my kit together. I asked them if they say the same thing to people who buy their kits new. His response was, yes. They offer no instructions on how to put your newly bought Natal kit togeher. Sheer madness. Stay away from Natal is my suggestion if you are new. They wont help you
This is very valuable advice. Get the absolute fundamentals right and other things will be easier.❤😊🎉
